Big Mac Index: one burger to read currencies.

The Big Mac Index compares the price of the same product across countries. It gives a simple intuition for purchasing power parity: a currency can look expensive when the burger costs much more than in the United States, and cheap when it costs much less.

What it is for

It helps you spot price gaps between countries with a very concrete object. It is not a trading signal, it is an educational compass for thinking about exchange rates, local prices and purchasing power.

How to read it

The raw column compares the local price converted into dollars with the US price. The adjusted column also accounts for income levels when the data is available.

Limits

Taxes, rent, wages, competition, local tastes and logistics all affect the price. One burger cannot summarize a full economy.
